Botox and Fillers Q&A

Botox

What is Botox?

Botox is an injectable treatment that stops facial wrinkles caused by grimacing. Botox can soften the wrinkles and slow down the formation of new wrinkles, as well. The Botox is injected via ultra-fine needles, and there is usually very little discomfort. Once the Botox is injected into the specific facial muscles that are causing the wrinkles, it will go to work to essentially disable the muscles so that they can't continue forming those wrinkles.

Where is Botox injected in the face?

The most common areas for Botox injection are the forehead and the crow's feet on the face next to the eyes. It is very common to develop vertical lines between the brows and fine lines on the forehead due to sun exposure and aging. Botox can eliminate those wrinkles and stop the face from forming the wrinkles again. A slight eyelid droop can also be corrected with Botox. Botox is typically used only in the top part of the face.

What is the cost of botox?

The cost of Botox varies based on how many units are needed for wrinkle correction. Dr. Randall will evaluate each patient on an individual basis to determine how much product is needed to bring about a wrinkle correction that the patient will be happy with. Most people need multiple units, with around 20 to 40 units being common.

How often should a person have Botox treatments?

This can vary by person, but for most people, Botox will last from 3 to 4 months. If a patient has regular Botox treatments before the product has completely dissipated, it will be much easier to keep the wrinkles away in the long term.

When does Botox take effect?

Botox can take a few days to a week to take effect, although some people may notice results even earlier than that.

What are fillers?

Fillers are an injectable product that is designed to help slow down the aging FIllersprocess in the face. Dermal fillers like Juvederm-XC, Radiesse, Belotero, Restylane-L, Voluma, and Perlane-L can soften or even eliminate wrinkles in the face. They can also be used to augment lips and cheekbones, creating new volume where desired. Fillers take effect right away. There is little to no downtime associated with dermal fillers, and all the fillers used at Randall Wellness are approved by the FDA. Each one will be administered by the expert care of Dr. Randall, who is trained in the most up to date anti-aging technology.

What is Juvederm-XC?

Juvederm-XC is another hyaluronic acid based filler that contains lidocaine. This product is used primarily to soften wrinkles, but may also be used in the lips. Juvederm-XC usually lasts for around 6 to 8 months.

What is Radiesse?

Radiesse is different than Juvederm-XC, Belotero, Perlane-L, and Restylane-L because it is made fromCalcium Hydroxyapatite rather than hyaluronic acid. Radiesse is a thicker product that is best for adding significant volume to areas like the temple, the jaws, and the cheekbones. Radiesse is very good at filling in the areas where aging has caused volume loss over time. It typically lasts for around 18 months. Please ask Dr. Randall which filler may be right for you.

What is Belotero?

Belotero is a thinner hyaluronic acid filler that is best for superficial wrinkles. It does not have the risk of visible filler lines and is the first filler to eliminate the risk of the Tindle effect (fine blue lines in the face after a superficial dermal filler.) Belotero lasts for about 6 to 8 months.

What is Restylane-L?

Restylane-L is a hyaluronic acid filler that also contains lidocaine for numbing purposes. This filler is ideal for use around the mouth area, particularly in the "marionette lines" on either side of the mouth. It is also used in the glabella, the vertical lines between the eyebrows. Restylane-L lasts for between 6 and 8 months.

What is Voluma?

Voluma is a thicker hyaluronic acid filler that lasts up to 18 months. It is injected over the zygomatic arch or cheekbone. The beneficial results are more chiseled facial features that are considered beautiful with the added benefit of lifting the lower face and resulting in not only more beautiful cheekbone but a mini facelift. Women are attracted to this filler because of its facelift effects.

What is Perlane-L?

Perlane-L is a thick hyaluronic acid filler that is ideal for creating additional volume in the temple, jaw, or cheekbones. It lasts for around 6 to 8 months.
